The UK Schools’ B.Boy Championships 2008 took place on Saturday 12 July - and what a fantastic event it was! 16 crews and their supporters from all over the UK descended on Boothroyd Hall in Dagenham ready to battle it out for the title, the Championship Shield and a £500 Prize Fund.

The day was buzzing from beginning to end with some outstanding showcases in the morning and tension-filled battles in the afternoon finals. Crews were breaking on stage, at the back of the hall and even outside the venue and lunchtime proved to be the biggest jam of all - with all 16 crews amassing on stage and throwing down in the circle  - with music still playing from DJ Credit 1 and Flygirl Anna.

MC Slammo hosted the event with never ending energy and reached out to an excited crowd throughout the day. Judges Firefly, Boogie and Adam Stn threw down to an awe-inspired audience, later signing autographs and T shirts and giving up their lunch break to have pictures taken with their young fans. The Mystery Battle proved to be a hi octane showcase of outrageous B.Boy skills and we were delighted to welcome on stage some of the UK’s most prominent B.Boys and B.Girls including Haylstorm, Foxy, DAJ, L’il Jay, Bee - and even Credit 1 left his DJ post for a few minutes in order to join the jam!

But the real congratulations go to the competitors - crews who worked incredibly hard all day to have the chance to battle in the finals, and who impressed us all with their commitment, professionalism and respect for each other and for their art form. Not one loser’s argument, not one moment of  negativity came from any of these young people who had all adopted the Raise Respect ethos of this competition wholeheartedly. Losers shook hands with winners and all wished everyone good luck with real sincerity throughout this action packed event. One teacher commented on how brilliant it was for all crews to be learning from each other through the lunch hour - teaching each other new moves and skills.

And finally major congrats to all finalists and to the overall winning crew - 0.2.ILL.

Now let’s get ready for next year! More crews, more jams, more trophies! Are you up for it?!
